YO-YO MA
One of the world’s finest classical musicians brings his signature performance of Bach’s six cello suites to India. Yo-Yo Ma has been playing Bach’s suites since he was four years old, and they have been his constant companions in a nearly six-decade career in which he has recorded over 100 albums, including 19 Grammy Award winners, and played for eight American presidents. This January, Yo-Yo Ma performs in India for the very first time.
YO-YO MA THE BACH PROJECT
This August, Yo-Yo Ma set out to perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s six suites for solo cello in one sitting, at 36 locations around the globe. It is a journey motivated not only by his decades-long relationship with the music but also by Bach’s ability to speak to our common humanity at a time when we are too often focused on division. In each location, Yo-Yo Ma partners on a day of action, a series of public events that explore how culture can help us to imagine and build a better future. Yo-Yo Ma brings the Bach project to Mumbai this January 2019, with his signature performance of the Bach suites at the Tata Theatre at the NCPA on the 21st and a day of action to follow on the 23rd.
