SOI Associate Music Director Zane Dalal will lead the concert on February 16, opening with the Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz. The concert will include Zakir Hussain’s Peshkar, a concerto for tabla and orchestra, commissioned by the SOI in 2015, and which received rave reviews when performed by the SOI on tour in Switzerland. The concert will close with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a symphonic suite based on One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights). Considered the composer’s most popular work, Scheherazade features the dazzling and colourful orchestraion for which Rimsky-Korsakov is highly regarded.
This performance runs approximately 120 minutes, with one intermission.
