Alexander Lazarev will conclude the season conducting a programme of Khachaturian, Haydn and Tchaikovsky.

Aram Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus was first produced in 1956 having successful productions in both the Kirov in Leningrad and the Bolshoi in Moscow. In this concert, three excerpts from the ballet will open the evening, including the famous Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, the most captivating moment in the ballet when Spartacus frees his wife and the lovers celebrate to this heart-rending music.

Chennai-based child prodigy and pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram went viral earlier this year as the winner of the American television competition The World’s Best on CBS. He joins the SOI to play Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major.

Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky is arguably the most popular Russian composer of all time. His music holds great appeal through its tuneful, open-hearted melodies, impressive harmonies, and colourful, picturesque orchestration, all of which evoke a profound emotional response from the listener. All this holds true in his Fifth Symphony, and despite a muted response at its premiere, it stands today as one of his best-loved creations.

This concert runs for 105 minutes with one intermission.
