March 3, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free
The March screening in the Opera at Habitat series is scheduled early in the month, on Thursday 3rd. The opera is one of the last great representatives of the Italian opera buffa genre a delightful comic opera by Donizetti, which has been performed in Delhi a few years ago: Don Pasquale
Opera at Habitat Series by Sunit Tandon: Donizetti’s sparkling operatic comedy Don Pasquale (Italian with English subtitles/ 130 mins.). A video recording of a live production from the Zurich Opera House. Conductor: Nello Santi, with star tenor Juan Diego Florez, soprano Isabel Rey and legendary bass-baritone Ruggero Raimondi. Sunit Tandon introduces a witty and colourful production of perhaps the last great Italian comic opera of the 19th century. The old bachelor Don Pasquale plans to marry in order to punish his rebellious nephew, Ernesto, who is in love with the young widow Norina. Pasquale wants an heir so he can cut the young man off without a penny. He consults Dr. Malatesta, who suggests as a bride his own beautiful younger sister, “Sofronia”. Behind Don Pasquale’s back, Malatesta plots with the young lovers to outwit the old man and the typical comic entanglements that ensue are the basis of this graceful and effervescent opera.
